Train ticket cancellation charges, rules & process

People are mostly confused about the refund policy and procedures of IRCTC.

A brief description would help you to cut down your confusion regarding cancellation and refund.

Cancellation is based on the time of your ticket booking and status of the ticket.

Let’s take a look at how ticket cancellation works:

For partial cancellation of tickets, one has to go online on bookings, select the ticket and click on cancel. A window will open where you select the person name(s) and then click cancel.

First of all we have to check if final chart is prepared of not.

If final chart is not prepared then cancellation fees is based on the hours remaining until the train will departs.

If train departure is more than 48 hours.

Class             Cancellation fees (Per Passenger)

1A/EC            ₹ 240

FC                 ₹ 200

2A                 ₹ 180

3A/CC            ₹ 120

SL/2S            ₹ 60

If train departure is less than 48 hours and more than 12 hours.

In this case 25% of the fare or above mentioned flat charges whichever is higher will be charged.

If train departure is less than 12 hours & chart is not prepared

In this case 50% of the ticket fare or flat cancellation charges whichever is higher will be charged

If final charts are prepared then the ticket will be NON-Refundable.
